THINK ABOUT IT: Until the invention of the internal combustion engine a clockmaker was the most advanced mechanical mind around. He produced, by hand, with limited tools and no electricity, wonderful clocks for individuals . . . to their specifications. During the 1970’s, 80’s, 90’s, and up to the present time, good quality, antique Tall Case Clocks have increased in value tremendously, about doubling in value every 12 to 15 years. This is caused by the fact that electricity and mass production stopped the making of custom “one of a kind” clocks about 1885-1890. The inventions of the electronic and quartz watches and clocks have led us into an era of “throw away” mentality, leading to an even greater appreciation for a custom, fine, hand made, antique Tall Case Clock. Considering the facts that no two clocks were made exactly alike and that this custom ended about 120 years ago, you have the formula for real appreciation over a long period of time.
